The progressive National Youth wing of the All Progressive Congress (APC), lead by Honourable Dayo Israel, has launched an empowering initiative aimed at transforming the lives of Nigerian youth.
The Empowerment Program, which commenced on July 8th and will run through July 12th, seeks to equip young people with essential skills and opportunities to become self-reliant and productive members of society.
The program which was held at Pistis Hub, 1A, Ikorodu- Olusosun Maryland, just before Mobolaji Bank Anthony Road Lagos with the theme Enterprise-Skills development training (EDET) Program.
Why speaking, Honourable Dayo Israel emphasized the significance of the program in nurturing the potential of the youth in Lagos State and across Nigeria.
He stated, “We want to teach our youth to leverage opportunities and make use of them. We will be training them on different skills acquisition to enable them to stay on their own and make an impact on themselves and their community, and teaching them to have a livelihood.”
The program’s agenda includes a diverse range of skill acquisition training, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency among the participants. By providing practical knowledge and hands-on experience, the initiative is designed to empower youth to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of their communities.
Addressing Youth Unemployment and Insecurity
Honourable Israel also highlighted the critical link between youth unemployment and social vices, noting that unengaged youth are more likely to resort to criminal activities. “If the youth are not engaged and have no meaningful job or skills, they may turn to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other vices,” he warned.
By creating pathways for sustainable livelihoods, the APC Youth Empowerment Program aims to reduce the appeal of such negative alternatives, thereby enhancing security and stability within the nation.
The week-long event will feature a variety of workshops, mentorship sessions, and networking opportunities, designed to inspire and equip young people with the tools needed for success. Topics covered will include:
- Entrepreneurship and business management
- Information and communication technology (ICT)
- Vocational skills such as carpentry, tailoring, and catering
- Financial literacy and investment strategies
- Personal development and leadership
Participants will also have the chance to showcase their talents and innovations, with the potential for further support and investment from private sector partners and government agencies.
As the program unfolds, Dayo Israel calls on all stakeholders, including government bodies, private enterprises, and civil society organizations, to join hands in supporting the empowerment of Nigerian youth. He stressed that the collective effort is essential in building a brighter future for the nation.
